9 months and counting.

That's how much time remains for Microsoft Fundraising & Engagement (F&E) customers to transition from the application before support ends on December 31, 2026.

Microsoft Fundraising and Engagement Retirement

Over the past year, we have partnered with our F&E customers to assess their options and plan for transition. The purpose of this post is to provide an update on what we've learned from our nonprofit fundraising and CRM customers since our last update in February 2025.

progress report

The following summarizes what our customers and we have been doing over the past 12 months:

  1. Partnered with nearly all of our F&E customers to complete the F&E transition assessment process. Each customer received a thorough report on their application and data dependency on F&E, an assessment of options for transition (both on Microsoft and on other platforms/apps), and our recommendation for transition

  2. As of the publishing of this post, each customer has had the opportunity to make an informed decision about their transition options. The following is a summary of those decisions:

    • Remain on Microsoft: 40% (all are transitioning to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Insights, and the threshold fundraising app)

    • Transition off Microsoft: 20%

    • Undecided: 40%

  3. Provide monthly updates to Microsoft Elevate on customer sentiment, challenges, opportunities, and decisions

  4. Providing active support to customers who decided to transition off of Microsoft to ensure stability through their transitions

  5. Maintaining active dialogue with undecided customers to ensure they are aware of considerations and risks should they not transition before the end of support on December 31, 2026.

next steps

  1. Complete transition projects for customers from F&E to threshold's fundraising app + Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales and Customer Insights

  2. Continue to support F&E customers transitioning to other platforms/apps

  3. Continue enhancing the threshold fundraising app to decrease the effort required to transition from F&E to Microsoft-based solutions

  4. Ensure open communication with undecided customers as they navigate the decision process and timeline

  5. Ensure upcoming Microsoft Elevate communications about F&E's end-of-support deadline are received by customers

key learnings to date

  1. Customers are concerned about the cost of transitioning, especially given today's political and funding landscape

  2. There is no unifying theme behind customers' decisions to transition off Microsoft. Each customer's decision has been based on unique circumstances

  3. It is highly likely that some customers will not transition from F&E prior to 12/31/2026. Each of these customers has assessed and accepted the risks in their decision-making process

  4. The retirement of F&E has led to a number of Microsoft partners, including us, creating and/or enhancing existing fundraising applications on the Microsoft Power Platform or Dynamics 365, which present viable options for transition
